Free Koi

30" Benigoi Available Now! Adopted!

We recently rescued this big guy from a bad situation.  To make a long story short, an elderly pond owner had recently passed away and his wife, who is also elderly and disabled, simply could not care for the pond.  She contacted us via this site and asked if we could help, so we did.  Surprisingly, the pond was in excellent condition when we arrived -- excellent water quality, no visible parasites, healthy Koi, etc.

Unfortunately, we do not have enough room available in our existing Koi pond to adequately provide for this extremely large Koi.  Again, this is an extremely large Koi -- approximately 30", and therefore this Koi requires a large pond.  In addition to his immense size, this Koi also appears to have a "crooked back."  This defect doesn't show up very well in the photos above, but it is quite obvious when you observe this Koi in person.  Most likely this was a birth defect that the original owner simply ignored. 

After being scoped for parasites and put through our rigorous quarantine procedures, this guy is currently residing in our 5,500-gallon growout pond.  So far he seems to be doing well, but he needs a permanent home.  We're planning to build another backyard pond next spring, so if we don't find a suitable home for this guy by then we may decide to keep him with us for the long haul. 

If you are interested in adding this 30" benigoi to your herd, please contact us.  This Koi is available for onsite pickup only, because we don't feel comfortable shipping a Koi this large.  We would appreciate hearing a bit about your current pond, koi keeping experience, etc., in order to ensure this guy goes to a suitable home.   

In order to keep our ponds from becoming overcrowded and to make room for higher quality stock, every spring we adopt out a small number of Koi free to suitable homes. These free Koi are not show winners, but they are healthy and would make a welcome addition to any backyard pond. Preference for free Koi is given to local residents with suitable ponds who take the time to sign our guestbook. 

Available free Koi will be posted on this page when the time comes.  We generally adopt out 10 - 20 free Koi each year for various reasons.
